The Android operating system includes a native screensaver feature, initially known as Daydream and currently referred to simply as "Screen Saver." In exploring this functionality, I found a lack of options for integrating widgets within the screensaver itself. To address this gap, I developed an application designed specifically for that purpose.
This app enables users to repurpose older devices running Android 5.0 or higher into stylish nightstand displays, showcasing their favorite widgets. Users have the option to display calendars, recent news, or even Friend Location information (refer to my Magical Location Clock app). The flexibility of the ecosystem allows for creative widget designs tailored to personal preferences.
The application includes important features such as burn-in protection, support for multiple widgets, customizable profiles, and integration with Tasker for profile-switching capabilities. It is worth noting that Widget Screensaver serves as a Tasker plugin, and I am not affiliated with Tasker in any capacity. Additionally, various configuration settings are available to enhance user experience.
For those experiencing issues or seeking improvements, your feedback is welcome.

This limitation is often due to certain manufacturers restricting third-party screensavers. For a workaround, consult this XDA post: link. The command to use is: adb shell settings put secure screensaver_components nl.jolanrensen.widgetscreensaver/.WidgetScreensaverService. - Can Widget Screensaver be used as an always-on display or when not charging?
While functionalities like screen-cover detection may not be available, it is possible to activate the screensaver whenever the screen turns off by utilizing Tasker (not affiliated). For reference, here's a profile I created: link.
